Before the government got all crazy about what is required to graduate high school, getting a dipolma was quite easy. All you had to do was to pass your classes and have the right amount of credits. That has all changed. Now not only do you have to have the right amount of credits, you have to pass an exam that determines whether or not you are going to graduate. This exam is called the high school exit exam.
Some may say that making the students pass this test will better them in the future but what about those students that can not pass it. Does that mean that there not smart enough to make it for the rest of there life? Yes i understand that there could be many reasons why they are not passing such as they just dont care, or they are not studying. But what about those students that are not test takers. What about the ones that have a hard time understanding what the test questions are asking them. This should not keep them from getting there diploma especially since they have been going to school for thirteen years.
I feel like society is giving up on those who can not pass the exam. I believe that this exam is hurting those who cant pass the exam in many ways especially emotionally because they are going to believe that they are failures. Instead of giving up on them there should be extra help avalible not a letter in the mail saying your child will not graduate because they did not pass the one out of many test they have taken in there life, the exit exam.
